Trails & Tastes: A Private Family Outing
This tour combines a guided outdoor activity with a local culinary experience. You will hike or snowshoe with an experienced guide, then finish the day with a picnic at The Dutchman’s Cheese Farm.
There are two route options available, depending on your preference and the season:
Option A: Coastal Forest (Thomas Cove). A mostly level 4 km path through mossy woodlands with views of the Minas Basin. Suitable for families wanting fresh air without difficult terrain.
Option B: Winter Highlands (Cobequid Highlands). A moderate snowshoe route in the ancient Appalachian Mountains. This winter-only option ends with a visit to the Highland cattle.
Dining: Both options conclude with a picnic of local cheeses, crackers, sweets, and a beverage at the farm.
Enjoy the perfect blend of outdoor adventure and cozy culinary comfort on this memorable family outing within the Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark. With your experienced local guide, you’ll hike or snowshoe through beautiful natural settings before concluding your day with a gourmet picnic at the beloved That Dutchman’s Cheese Farm. With two distinct destination options, this experience offers something special for every season and every family.
Option 1 – Thomas Cove Economy Trail (Hike or Snowshoe)
Drawn to a scenic coastal forest experience? The Thomas Cove Economy Trail features a 4 km mostly level path winding through moss-covered woodland, mysterious stretches draped in Old Man’s Beard lichen, and breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the Minas Basin, with distant islands and sandstone formations on the horizon.
This gentle yet immersive route is ideal for families seeking discovery, fresh air, and stunning scenery without technical terrain. Hike in warmer months or snowshoe in winter.
Following your outdoor adventure, you’ll travel to That Dutchman’s Cheese Farm to enjoy a cozy gourmet picnic featuring locally produced cheeses, artisan crackers and breads, sweet treats, and a seasonal beverage — a well-earned and delicious finale to your day.
Option 2 – Cobequid Highlands Snowshoe & Highland Cattle (Snowshoe Only)
For families seeking a true winter alpine-style experience, join us in the Cobequid Highlands, part of the ancient Appalachian Mountain Range once connected to the Scottish Highlands before the breakup of the supercontinent Pangea. This moderately challenging snowshoe route leads through a beautiful highland landscape and concludes with a visit to the iconic Highland cattle at the end of the trail — a highlight for children and adults alike.
After the snowshoe, warm up and unwind at That Dutchman’s Cheese Farm with a gourmet picnic of local cheeses, artisan accompaniments, sweets, and a hot beverage.
Final confirmation regarding start-time will be forwarded no later than 3 weeks prior to your tour.
Please note: During winter months either trail is accessible. If there is a lack of snow we will turn the snowshoe activity into a woodland hike instead. The decision will be conveyed in the confirmation email prior to your tour.
Complimentary pick up is optional if clients are staying in Parrsboro.
Meeting point for clients travelling from Halifax or Truro: Cliffs of Fundy Geopark Welcome Centre, 3246 Highway 2, Economy, Nova Scotia
