Prehistoric Puzzles: Fossils and Pangea at Two Islands Beach

This low-tide walk takes you to Two Islands Beach and the Wasson’s Bluff fossil site, where Canada’s oldest known dinosaur was found. We explore two different landscapes to learn about the breakup of the supercontinent Pangea 200 million years ago.

Families will identify ancient pebbles, explore the intertidal zone for life, and watch the tide begin to return. This tour focuses on hands-on learning about local geology and nature, tailored to the ages and abilities of your group.

Two Islands Beach lies beside the world-renowned fossil site of Wasson’s Bluff, where, in 1984, Canada’s oldest known dinosaur was discovered. On this guided low-tide adventure, you’ll explore two strikingly different coastal landscapes and step into a story that spans more than 200 million years, back to the breakup of the supercontinent Pangea.
As we wander the ocean floor, you’ll learn to identify ancient pebbles and minerals shaped by deep geological forces, explore the vibrant intertidal zone, discover edible and non-edible seaweeds, examine protected Atlantic mud-piddock beds, and witness the powerful tide as it begins its dramatic return.

This specialized family tour focuses on hands-on learning about the geology, flora, and fauna of both Two Islands Beach and Wasson’s Bluff. Each excursion is thoughtfully customized to suit the ages, interests, and abilities of children and adults alike—ensuring an engaging, educational, and truly unforgettable experience for the whole family.

This tour is tidal-dependent. Final confirmation regarding start-time will be forwarded no later than 3 weeks prior to your tour.
