The Island Crossing: A Tidal Race

A specialized adventure available only on specific dates when tide conditions allow. We cross the ocean floor to explore between Big Brother and Little Brother islands.

After the crossing, we return to the mainland for a beachside picnic with local food and hot drinks. From the shore, we watch the tide rapidly fill the channel we just walked across.

Embark on a rare island-to-island coastal crossing and experience one of the Upper Bay of Fundy’s most extraordinary tidal events. Available only on select dates each month due to precise tide conditions, this exclusive adventure offers a fleeting opportunity to step across the ocean floor and explore between Big Brother Island and its neighbour, Little Brother — a journey few ever experience.

After completing the crossing and returning safely to the mainland, you’ll settle in for a relaxed beachside picnic featuring locally sourced ingredients and a hot beverage. From this perfect vantage point, you’ll witness the dramatic return of the tide as rushing water rapidly fills the shallow channel you have just crossed. You may choose to feel the powerful surge of the incoming water at a safe, guided location, or simply observe from shore — either way, the spectacle is unforgettable.

This is a bold, tide-timed immersion into motion, power, and place — a true “Meeting of the Waters” that leaves a lasting impression long after the sea has returned.

Please carry water (1 litre per person), a small snack and sunscreen in your daypack. Wearing a hat is recommended. Ensure your footwear is suitable for navigating beaches. Closed-toe and lace-up shoes are a must. We cover a variety of terrain ranging from fist-sized rocks, pebbles and sand with potentially muddy sections. Your guide will have trekking poles available if you choose to use them for added balance and easier navigation of the varied terrain.

Our tours are conducted in all weather. In case of rain, ponchos will be part of the guide’s kit. Tours are subject to cancellation only when thunderstorms are imminent.

For the "Meeting of the Waters" tour we recommend wearing shorts or pants that roll up to above the knees. If you have watershoes please bring these along. No worries if you do not own any, we have a selection of water shoes and towels available to borrow. These shoes are washed and desinfected between tours.
